Located on the west shore of Grand Turk, Cockburn Town is the oldest town and capital of the Turks & Caicos Islands. This charming and picturesque beachfront settlement offers British colonial architecture, historic landmarks, and easy access to white-sand beaches and crystal clear waters.
The best way to explore Cockburn Town is on foot. Explore independently, on a self-guided audio tour, or as part of a guided sightseeing tour of top attractions on the island, including the Grand Turk Lighthouse, Her Majesty’s Prison, the National Museum, and the Salt House. The historical part of town stretches for about 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) and mainly follows the coastline. Duke Street, Queen Street, and Front Street house most of the historic attractions and 18th- and 19th-century residences that now serve as restaurants, inns, and hotels. Cockburn Town Beach is just across from Front Street.

Cockburn Town is located on the west coast of Grand Turk, about 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) north of the cruise port and 1.8 miles (3 kilometers) north of the airport. Travel to town by taxi, rental car, golf cart, or scooter.
Cockburn Town is busiest when cruise ships are docked on Grand Turk, and some shops will only open when a cruise ship is in town. The National Museum has opening hours that change from month to month, often to coincide with cruise ship schedules. Check ahead to avoid disappointment.
Cockburn Town’s main attraction is the National Museum, which is housed in the historic Guinep House, built nearly 200 years ago from timber salvaged from shipwrecks. Main exhibits include artifacts excavated from the Molasses Reef Wreck, the oldest excavated European shipwreck in the Americas, and on the indigenous people of the Turks & Caicos.
